Attaching Users to Assets
I was chatting with a co-worker the other day, and we were saying it would be nice if there was an easier way to attach a user to an asset in Smart Recorder. We didn’t come up with a solution, although we put an idea out there
( https://community.bmc.com/s/idea/0873n000000TetrAAC/detail ).
We did discover what we probably should have already known – you can “@” an asset in Smart Recorder and it will be linked to the ticket in the CI/Asset field, but it won’t be linked to the user.
But as we were poking around in the Smart IT configuration area, we found this (Smart IT/More/Configuration – Screen Configuration/Asset View) under the Asset’s Add/Remove Actions
When we clicked on Add/Remove Actions – and then the + sign to add an Action – we got this screen (we clicked on the Asset Action tab).
Eureka! We can add an Action to Create People Relationships. How does this work? We tried it – first we created the Action:
Then we went to see what it looked like. On the Asset Console, once we select an asset (or assets – this works with multiple assets!), we have the Action available:
And can add a person relationship without opening up the asset or assets:
On an Asset, we also have this available, so we don’t have to go to the “People” tab – saves a little bit of scrolling!
We aren’t sure which version first had the Asset Actions available in Smart IT – but check your version out, see if you can do this too. It looks like it’s been there since Smart IT 1.6. I should have notice it before now! One caveat: I don’t know what will happen to Actions when Asset is moved to a Progressive Web App view.
Anyway, we thought this was pretty cool! Hope you like it too. 20.02 documentation is here: https://docs.bmc.com/docs/smartit2002/configuring-asset-actions-908203183.html
